Hamilton Wins German Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton wins the German Grand Prix held at the Nurburgring Circuit moving him to third in the championship.

Hamilton drove a fantastic race with a combination of a good start, brilliant pit crew and no mishaps, he finished the race over 3 seconds in front of the second place driver. He commented after the race:

"Great job guys, great job, that was amazing. If we keep pushing, this is the kind of result we can get. Thanks for pushing, guys."

The second place driver is Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, who also drove a good race starting on the grid in fourth position. He fought past Vettel at the start of the race but lost position on the second lap only to take it back on lap eight.

Reigning championship driver Vettel only just finishes in fourth place after a frantic last few laps with Massa. He was told to do the opposite to Massa:

"Do the opposite to Massa, if he pits stay out, if he stays out you pit,"

But as Massa stayed out on the last lap, so did Vettel, it all came down to the pit crew, who managed to get Vettel out before Massa. Vettel commented after the race:

"It felt good to get out ahead [of the final pit stop] of Felipe, it was nice to see the Ferrari still stationary. I think both of us were right at the limit at the end of the race and surely I'm not happy, I'm not satisfied. I didn't feel too good all weekend"

Jenson Button was forced to retire due to a problem with the hydraulics system in the car. Button updated his twitter after the race:

"Great job by Lewis and the team for another win! Tough day for me with a hydraulic failure. Had fun while it lasted!"

Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren boss commented:

"What a fantastic race. You had three teams, three drivers, really battling it out. Lewis just drove a fantastic, fantastic race. We were very nervous all the way through to be honest. You never know if you can't get the tyre temperature up."

German driver Nick Heidfeld collided with Sebastien Buemi on lap nine, Buemi seemed to come across to the racing line on turn 10 and squeezed Heidfeld on the grass and eventually crashing into the rear right tyre of Buemi, Buemi carried on with a puncture.

Hamilton is now 77 points behind the leader Vettel. Has this race given him and the team a boost and take the championship?

The next race is the Hungarian Grand Prix that will take place on the 31st of July.
