Malaysian Grand Prix Won By Vettel

Sebastian Vettel won the Malaysian Grand Prix this Easter weekend at Sepang helping the Red Bull-Renault team achieve its first one-two finish of the season.

Vettel overtook team mate Mark Webber at the start of the race and then held on to first position to win it. Vettel also produced the fastest lap of the race - 1:37.054 seconds. Vetter commented:

"I realised straight away I had a good start, I was able to gain, gain, gain and I had a good advantage.” "I took the chance into Turn One, it was very late but I took it” he added

"It's good that we can fight each other but you should keep the respect and I am glad that we have done that, I am sure Mark would do the same as I did.”

"After that we had the same pace but I was able to stay in front. We had a magnificent car - I just had to watch the pace and look after the tyres…It was a very good result for us especially after two races where we didn't finish where we wanted to be. It was important to stay relaxed and not panic so I am really pleased for me and the team."

Mark Webber came second in Sepang finishing 4 seconds behind the leader. He started on pole position on the grid.

Lewis Hamilton was happy that he finished in the points sector as he battled from 20th on the grid. Hamilton overtook eight cars on his first lap, he said:

"Overall, I'm well happy and could not ask for more," he added

"It's closer in the constructors' championship now and the team deserve it. Clearly, it's a positive day."

Hamilton finished 6th - 23 seconds behind the leader.

Team mate Jenson Button started 17th on the grid on soft tyres but seemed to be struggling, he pitted on lap 9 of the race and changed to hard tyres, where he instantly became more confident and started overtaking and catching up to rivals putting in a few fastest laps of the race. Button finished in 8th position gaining 4 points.

Michael Schumacher had problems at Sepang after losing a wheel nut on his rear left tyre and had to retire from the race on the 10th lap.

Felipe Massa leads the championship after finishing in 7th place. Massa is now two points ahead of team mate Fernando Alonso, who is on level points with Vettel now after his win at Sepang.
