Motor Insurance - New Court Ruling
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) have announced that they will be introducing a new rule to rid gender pricing.
Currently, insurance companies can offer difference insurance rates and terms to men and women. With the new ruling, this may be ruled out by December 2012.
Not only is car insurance affected, but other insurance such as life insurance, income protection and others such as pensions will be affected as the new ruling will come into effect.
Acting Director of the ABI (Association of British Insurers) Maggie Craig commented:
"This gender ban is disappointing news for UK consumers and something the UK insurance industry has fought against for the last decade. The judgement ignores the fact that taking a person's gender into account, where relevant to the risk, enables men and women alike to get a more accurate price for their insurance.”
