Vettel Wins Japanese Grand Prix
This weekend we saw the Red Bull-Renault team take the one-two at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka with Sebastian Vettel finishing first and team mate Mark Webber finishing a close second.
Not with out a interesting start to the Grand Prix, the action started at the beginning of the race where Vitaly Petrov went into the wall on the start/finish straight after colliding with Hulkenberg’s Williams, at the same time, Felipe Massa made contact with a Vitantonio Liuzzi in the Force India-Mercedes car retiring them both on the first lap. The safety car coming out for 6 laps as the stewards cleaned up the track.
Vettel started the race on pole position after a fast qualifying session. A brilliant start by the German driver out him in front of team mate Webber who followed closely in second position. He sounded ecstatic at the end of the race commented over the team radio:
“Yes! That's what I am talking about. Thank you. It's fantastic. I know you didn't get a lot of sleep last night and you might not tonight but enjoy this. This is our circuit and I am so proud to be a part of this team,"
Mark Webber finished second after a brilliant drive and flawless tyre changes, he also managed to claim the fastest lap of the race with a 1:33.474. With this finish he pulls ahead in the championship table by 3 points, he commented after the race:
"I need to win again in the future. I'm very confident I can do that," he added.
"All in all a good day for all of us [at Red Bull] and I am very happy with my position,"
Fernando Alonso finished the race in 3rd position overall with perfect pit stops.
Hamilton had gearbox troubles losing 3rd gear on lap 39 letting team mate Button through to finish a respectable fourth and fifth. Hamilton commented after the race:
“I don’t think it was going to make it if im honest, it was making a lot of noise”
Nico Rosberg came off on lap 49 losing a wheel and nearly flipping the car over as he hit the barriers. Japanese driver Kobayashi drove a fantastic final few laps, fighting from 14th on the grid to finish 7th overall
