Lexus Recall Announced
Lexus UK are working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to contact registered keepers of certain Lexus models and to advise them of the problem and procedures of how to get their vehicle fixed.
The first recall affects the IS, GS and RX models, built between February 2003 and November 2005. The affected part is the brake master cylinder. Lexus are aware of a seal within the brake system between the brake master cylinder and the brake booster may leak. If this does happen, the driver of the vehicle will be alerted to a dashboard warning light to say that the brake fluid is low. The car can continued to be driven for over 200 miles - Lexus claims no accidents have been caused due to this fault.
The fix includes the replacement of the small seal and to check for contamination in the brake booster. If any contamination is found, the brake booster will be replaced. The repair will take around 2 hours. Approximately 15,400 UK owners are affected by this recall. The recall will be at no cost to the owner of the car.
The second recall concerns the fuel pump on the GS300 models built between September 2004 and February 2006 - 2,081 UK registered cars have been affected by this recall. The expansion and contractions of the fuel take may stretch the electrical wiring for the fuel pump causing the fuel pump to stop working, thus no fuel getting to the engine resulting in the engine to stop running - without any prior warning, again Lexus claims that no accidents have been reported due to this fault.
The fix for this is to replace the electrical harness for the fuel pump. This job will take around 3 hours and again will be at no cost to the owner.
Belinda Poole, Lexus director, said:
