Mini to Recall 29,868 Cars in the UK

A fault on some models by BMW Mini, including the Mini Cooper S and John Cooper Works models, built between March 2006 and January 2011 has prompted a recall by the manufacturer.

On affected models, the water pump can overheat the wiring and potentially cause a fire, although the incidence rate is said to be low and Mini have said that the cars are still safe to drive.

Mini will be contacting customers over the coming weeks to arrange a free replacement water pump, which should take around an hour to fit at your local dealership.

A Mini spokesman said:

"We are not aware of any accidents or injuries connected with this. The important thing is that when people receive the letter, they simply go to their dealer and get a new water pump fitted if there is a problem."
