This totals to over 195,000 new cars registered since January 1st 2010. There has been a 25% increase in lease car purchases and also an increase in large scale ordering from businesses as fleet cars.
SMMT report that the second half of the year may slip as such an increase of new car registrations in the first six months may slow the market down.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt commented:
"The new car market continued to perform above expectations in June," he added..
"The industry still expects challenging economic conditions in the second half of the year, and government action to improve access to credit for consumers and businesses will be important in sustaining the momentum of recovery."
For the first six months of 2010 the Ford Fiesta was the best selling car ahead of the Ford Focus and the Vauxhall Astra. But in June this year, the Vauxhall Astra was the best selling car, with 10,525 Vauxhall Astra’s registered compared to the 8,279 of the Ford Fiesta.
