EuroNCAP Release Latest Crash Results
EuroNCAP have published results for five new cars, the Toyota Verso, Kia Venga, Nissan Cube, Seat Exeo and the Citroen Nemo.
Overall the cars scored:
- Toyota Verso - 5 stars
- Kia Venga - 4 stars
- Nissan Cube - 4 stars
- Seat Exeo - 4 stars
- Citroen Nemo - 3 stars
Lease car buyers should take a interest to EuroNCAP’s new stringent ruling when buying a car. In 2010 new legislation means car manufacturers meet tougher challenges as it challenged manufacturers to achieve 5 stars across three arrears of safety.
Adult Occupant Protection rose from 75% to 80%, Child Occupant Protection 70% to 75% and Pedestrian Protection 25% to 40%. These are the three areas of test which EuroNCAP measure.
The Toyota Verso resulted with 69% Pedestrian Safety, this scored a 5 star EuroNCAP rating, the Citreon Nemo scored a 3 star rating coming in at 29% the reason that it scored so low is that it did not have a curtain air bag to protect the occupants in the car.
A surprising performer in the above cars is the Nissan Cube, which got a overall rating of 4 stars, only let down by the Child Occupant Protection during the front test crash.
The Kia Venga received a 4 star result due to the lower seat belt was partially cut in the frontal car crash test - this is classed as a fatal flaw. Kia recognised this flaw and immediately put a plan into action to stop any further cars to be built with this error.
Dr Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP said:
“Any reduction of the performance of the seat belt not only poses a serious risk to the driver and passenger, but also compromises the validity of the Euro NCAP rating awarded to the car. Customers must ensure that the modification is fitted, so that the four star rating applies.”
