All New Volvo S60
Volvo have released specifications and pictures, as their new car the all new Volvo S60 is released before its official launch at the Geneva Motor Show.
We reported on the Volvo S60 back in November 2009 when it was just a concept car and we only had a few details on it.
Today Volvo have released a press pack with all specifications and engines that are available. Confirmed is the 1.6 litre turbocharged engine which will be the T4 mid range model. Also confirmed is the Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake and Pedestrian Detection. This technology can detect a pedestrian who if they step onto the path of the car and the driver does not respond, the car will react to this and apply the brakes to avoid collision.

The new car will be initially released with one petrol, a 3.0litre straight 6 producing 304bhp, this will be the T6 AWD model - the flagship model. A D5 which is a 2.4litre 5-cylinder diesel, producing 205bhp and finally a D3 version which is a 163bhp 2.0litre 5-cylinder diesel. Later in 2010/11, Volvo will release 3 more petrol and another diesel engine to their line up. The T3, T4 and T5 will be the next released petrols. The all new 1.6D DRIVe is the diesel model to be released with 115bhp but with 200lb/ft of torque and having less than 115g/km of emissions.

The Pedestrian Detection system works by having a radar built into the grill of the car, also a camera that is built into the rear-view mirror, working together, the radar detects the object in front of the car then works out how far in front it is then the camera determines what the object is before applying the brakes to stop the car from hitting the object. Optional equipment available is a Drive Alert System (DAC), this is technology to alert tired drivers. Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) - this will detect cars in blind spots and a lamp above the relevant door mirror warns the driver of a vehicle. Active Bi-Xenon Lights are available, these lights will follow the curve of roads as you drive along, Land Departure Warning - this warns the driver that they are going across lanes without using the indicator.

On the interior the all new Volvo S60, the dashboard has been totally re-designed with the driver in mind. With extra room and also a new climate control system called Clean Zone, which monitors the air temperature and automatically adjusts this to suit. Also coming with a new Infotainment system, this system shows on the 5 or 5 inch screen the details about the radio, navigation system, mobile phone and other functions. Optional extras such as Adaptive Cruise Control, from and rear parking sensors and a camera in the front grill to view around corners such as coming out of a tight junction.
