New Car Sales on the Increase
The boost in car sales from the new March 2012 plate helped bring the 1st quarter new car registrations to 563,556 which itself shows an increase of 0.9% based on the 2011 figures.
The SMMT also reported that private sales in March 2012 increased 7.4% from the previous month.
Although car sales have not reached the levels of pre-recession figures, there is hope that this growth shows signs of a recovery in the sector.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said:
"The important March new-car market performed above expectations..."
"Domestic demand for new cars is showing signs of recovery, with private buyers increasingly returning to take advantage of a wide range of excellent products and, this month, the new 12-plate."
