New Volkswagen Polo GTI
Volkswagen today released details of their new car, the new Polo GTI. Launched ahead of the Geneva Motor Show as a teaser to show what to expect on the Volkswagen stand at the show.
Powered by a 178bhp 1.4litre TSI engine as used in the Volkswagen Golf GT Sport and the Seat Ibiza Cupra - the engine utilises a supercharger from idle to 3000rpm, where a turbocharger cuts in and provides boost - powering the small car to 62mph in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 142mph. Using a small engine has its benefits, the fuel consumption is a staggering 47mpg on the combined cycle and only producing 139g/km of carbon.

The engine is linked to a 7-speed DSG gearbox as seen in the new Golf, the difference is with the Polo GTI is that it is fitted with a XDS differential with is a cross axle traction control system combined with the cars standard ESP helps to keep the car on the road.

On the exterior, the new car is 15mm lower than a standard Polo and fitted with up rated springs and dampers to sharpen the handling. Aesthetic changes are similar to the new Golf GTI just as the current Polo GTI is to the MK5 Golf GTI. Fitted with a honeycomb grille with red stripes and a deep air-dam in the lower bumper with only a ‘GTI’ badge on the grille. Optional LED DRLs (daytime running lights) give the new Polo GTI a face lifted look. 17” alloy wheels are fitted as standard on this Polo as opposed to 16” on the current model.
On the interior, revised dials, a new flat bottomed ‘GTI’ steering wheel with red stitching with paddles for the DSG system are the first things you see. Small touches such as aluminium pedals, gloss black trim accenting the interior.
The new Polo GTI is due to arrive in the summer. Keep up to dates with the new Polo GTI by book marking us today.
