Toyko Motor Show - 2009
This week is the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show.
With all the new car manufacturers bringing their new prototypes as well as their new cars they are due to release in the next year.
Nissan brought along a few new car prototypes, The Leaf, Land Glider and the Fuga to name a few. The Leaf is a new zero emission car powered by just electricity, but unlike other electric cars, big enough for a family of four plus luggage. The Land Glider is an electric city car that has been ‘squashed’ and seats two people, one behind the other and finally the Fuga is a new eco friendly executive saloon powered by three different V6 engines linked to a seven speed gearbox to ensure an economical return.
Lotus released details of the new Exige Scura – a limited edition of the well known Exige model. Only building 35 of these new cars, it will have matt black paint, gloss black stripes and carbon fibre detailing. Powered by a 1.8 supercharged engine producing around 260bhp at 8000rpm working with VVT – variable valve timing will give the car 174lb/ft of torque. These figures will see the new Exige Scura accelerate to 60mph in less than 4 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
Honda came along with the new CR-Z – the long awaiting replacement for the 1990s icon, the CR-X – but this time it is a hybrid. Under the bonnet of this new car is an upgraded and more powerful version of the 1.5 hybrid engine from the Honda Insight – linked to a 6 speed manual gearbox and lowered suspension, the CR-Z will be the first hybrid sports coupe available.
