Leasing FAQ'sQ: What is an initial payment?A: This is the initial rental you will make before you get your vehicle. Eg. 3 initial payments in a 3+35 contract that costs £200 + vat per month over 3 years. This would cost you £600 + vat (initial or first payment) and £200 + vat per month for 35 months making this a 36 month agreement.
Q: What do you mean by 3+23 or 3+35 payments?A: This means ‘3’ is the initial payment (initial rental) then followed by 23 or 35 payments depending on your contract term.
Q: What contracts lengths are available to me?A: Contracts range from 24 months to 48 months.
Q: Can I change my mileage contract after I have started the agreement?A: Yes, most of the funders will allow you to change your agreed mileages; the funder will adjust your monthly amount accordingly.
Q: Is delivery included?A: The majority of car leasing deals include delivery to a UK mainland address of your choice. Please check with your supplying leasing company.
Q: Does my monthly lease rental include car insurance?A: Contract Hire (CH) and Personal Contract Hire (PCH) lease contracts do not include car insurance; your new lease car must be covered by a fully comprehensive insurance policy for the duration of the contract, which is your responsibility to arrange.
Q: What will happen if I can no longer afford the payments on my lease vehicle?A: Inform the funder you have the lease contract with immediately. They will discuss the matter with you further.
Q: How do I pay for the lease vehicle?A: Your initial payment may be taken via cheque or by direct debit. All further payments will be made via direct debit to the funder unless you arrange special terms with them.
Q: Is road tax included in the leasing agreement?A: The first year’s road tax will be included in your agreement. Most finance companies will also include the road tax for the duration or your contract. You will need to check this as some finance companies will only give you your first year’s road tax.
Q: What if I do more miles than in my contract?A: Usually there is a charge for excess mileage, check your agreement carefully under the excess mileage charge.
Q: What happens if I damage the vehicle?A: You will need to repair the damage before the vehicle goes back to the finance company, if you don’t the finance company may charge you for the repair once they have done it. You will have to adhere to the fair wear and tear policy provided by every leasing company.
Q: Are all lease vehicles brand new?A: Almost all lease cars are brand new, unless the company is offering pre-registered vehicles which are rare, but also cheap. Some leasing companies will also offer used vehicles for lease.
Q: Will my car come with a manufacturer’s warranty?A: Yes, if the vehicle is brand new it will come with the standard manufacturer’s warranty (usually 3 years but you will need to check as some manufacturers are different), if you get a used lease vehicle you will have the remaining warranty left from when the vehicle was first registered.
Q: Do I need to MOT my lease vehicle?A: Only if your lease term is more than 3 years.
Q: Who pays to maintain the vehicle?A: Maintenance of the car is your responsibility; unless you have a full maintenance contract then you must ensure you service your vehicle at the manufacturers’ service intervals.
Q: Who owns the vehicle at the end of the agreement?A: Under normal leasing conditions, the finance company owns the vehicle, but most will offer you the option to purchase the vehicle prior to the vehicle returning to the funder.
Q: Can I add a private registration mark on to my lease vehicle?A: Yes you can add a private plate on to the vehicle if you have the permission from the funder. You will need to change the nominee to the funder but make sure you remove the plate prior to the vehicle returning or you may lose it.
Q: What happens to a contract hire or personal contract hire agreement in the case of bereavement?A: The vehicle is returned to the leasing company.
